Easton, Mass. – Junior Connor Mote (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) scored, but the Bentley men's soccer team was defeated by Stonehill 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match for the Falcons' season opener.

Mote scored in the 78^th minute on a penalty kick to cut Stonehill's lead in half to 2-1, but the Falcons could not find the tying goal over the remaining 12 minutes.

A scoreless first half where Bentley outshot the host Skyhawks 14-2 gave way to the second half where the teams combined for three goals.

Stonehill's first goal came in the 51^st minute from midfielder Keegan Nutt, and the hosts doubled their lead in the 67^th minute with a goal from defender Daniel Pereira.

Bentley finished the game with a 19-12 edge in shots, but shots on goal were 6-6 for both teams.

Mote led Bentley with two shots on goal, and senior keeper Nick Maldarella (St. James, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) made four stops for the Falcons.

The Falcons will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Holy Family.
