Patel’s Goal Enough as NYIT Clips Bentley 1-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior midfielder Krishen Patel scored an 18th minute goal, the game's only goal, but it was enough to give visiting New York Tech a 1-0 victory over Bentley University on Saturday afternoon.

Patel was played through by a pass from freshman Alberto Marchan into the penalty area, and Patel finished with a low shot from about six yards to give the Bears the lead.

Bentley's best chance in the first half came in the 30th minute from junior Julian Stewart (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro) with a shot from the left corner of the penalty area, that was blocked by the NYIT defense.

Bentley's best chance of the 2nd half came just after halftime, when they were awarded an indirect free kick after NYIT goalie Jonathan Rico handled a pass back to him with his hands. That gave the Falcons a shot from the penalty spot, but with NYIT able to build a wall in front of Rico. The kick was taken by Stewart, but the wall of defenders came up with the block.

Bentley goalie David Price (Needham, Mass./Beaver Country) made his debut, and came up with four saves on the afternoon.

Now with all of its non-conference games completed, Bentley will play its NE10 opener on Tuesday at home against Assumption. Kickoff for that one is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
