Bentley Falls to Saint Michael’s Despite Sullivan's Goal

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Sean Sullivan (Suffield, Conn./Suffield HS) scored his 5th goal of the season in the 1st half, but the Bentley University men's soccer team fell to visiting Saint Michael's 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 match.

Sullivan was on target in the 38th minute to cancel out Saint Michael's opening goal in just the 1st minute. But the Purple Knights scored just after halftime to take a 2-1 lead, and held on over the remainder of the half.

The Purple Knights got on the board after just 57 seconds on a goal by forward Aaron DaCosta. The goal was setup by a corner kick by Adrian Diaz that fell to DaCosta in the six yard box. DaCosta had an initial shot on goal saved by Bentley keeper Harrison Rapant (Pittsfield/Pittsfield HS). But after winning the loose ball, DaCosta was able to put the ball into the back of the net to give Saint Michael's the early lead.

Sullivan's goal in the 38th minute though knotted the game up at one and came off a corner kick as well. The kick was sent in and knocked down by junior Eric Morra (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville HS), who played a short pass to Sullivan in the penalty area. Sullivan then lined in a shot past Purple Knights keeper Taylor Wallace.

The match went into halftime tied 1-1, but just after the break, DaCosta was on target again with a diving header off a corner kick by Diaz to give Saint Michael's a 2-1 lead in the 47th minute.

The Purple Knights would hang on the rest of the way, despite four shots on goal by Bentley that required saves of Wallace.

Prior to the game, the men's soccer program honored captain Forrest Scaringe (Cohoes, N.Y./CBA), Brett Ripperger (Westfield, N.J./Westfield HS) and Lucas Pagano (Miami, Fla./Palmer Trinity HS) on Senior Day.

The Falcons will next play their final regular season home game on Tuesday against New Haven at 3:00 pm.
