Bentley Comes Close, but Can’t Find Equalizer in 1-0 Defeat to Merrimack

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University had several quality scoring chances in the 2nd half against Merrimack, but the Warriors were able to hang on for a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the men's soccer team in a Northeast-10 match on Wednesday.

The teams battled scoreless for most of the first half, until Merrimack went ahead in the 44th minute on a goal by junior Michael Dushman. Off a free kick, senior Connor O'Brien got a head on the ball in the center of the box over to Dushman on the far post, who then volleyed in his shot for the game's first goal.

Bentley then produced several scoring chances in the 2nd half. In the 59th minute, a diving header by Forrest Scaringe (Cohoes, N.Y./CBA) off a cross from midfielder Dan Anderson (Bedford/Bedford HS) was saved.

After center back Michael Baron (Medfield/Roxbury Latin HS) saved a potential Merrimack goal with a sliding stop, Bentley nearly tied it again through chances by Sean Sullivan (Suffield, Conn./Suffield HS) in the 71st minute and Scaringe in the 88th minute off a great cross by Chuck Leone (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side HS), but Scaringe's shot was barely cleared off the line by the Merrimack defense.

Merrimack ended up with a slight 4-3 3edge in shots on goal over the Falcons, whose next match is non-conference at Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday at 3:30 pm.
