Sullivan Nets Two as Bentley Wins 4th Straight

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore forward Sean Sullivan (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) scored two first half goals as the Bentley men's soccer team ran out 2-1 winners over visiting Saint Anselm on Friday afternoon for its 4th straight victory.

The win improves the Falcons' Northeast-10 record to 6-3 for 18 points, and puts them up to 2nd place in the standings for the time being, pending tomorrow's results.

Sullivan put Bentley in front inside of 15 seconds with his 2nd goal of the season. Bentley played the ball back to right back Chuck Leone (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) off the opening kickoff, who launched a long ball down the field. The ball was headed on by a Saint Anselm defender to the feet of Sullivan, who sped past his marker and fired a shot to the far post from 15 yards out to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

Sullivan added his second in the 28th minute, again striking from within the penalty box, to give Bentley a comfortable 2-0 lead.

The Falcons kept Saint Anselm keeper Stephen McLeod busy with 10 shots on goal, four by Sullivan and two each by Scott Levy (Canton, Mass./Canton) and Forrest Scaringe (Cohoes, N.Y./CBA).

The Hawks made it interesting late however. A Bentley own goal cut its lead to 2-1, and Saint Anselm nearly equalized in the 89th minute when midfielder Jack Heintzelman had a breakaway, but his shot went just wide.

Bentley's four game winning streak is its longest streak since the 2012 season. They'll go for five in a row on Wednesday when they host Franklin Pierce.
