NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Forward Anthony Asante found the back of the net in double overtime, in the 103rd minute, to send Post University to a 1-0 win over the Bentley men's soccer team in the season opener for both squads Friday night.
Asante's goal, headed in off a cross from defenseman Jacob Butler-Bowdon broke the scoreless tie with just over seven minutes left in the second overtime.
Bentley had the advantage in shots over the Eagles, 11-9, and Post had the edge in corner kicks 6-3.
The Falcons had the only shot on goal in the first overtime courtesy of senior captain Scott Levy (Canton, Mass./Canton), but Post's goalie Serigne Baba Gaye came up with the save.
Bentley's Forest Scaringe (Cohoes, N.Y./CBA) had a shot in the second OT that went wide 28 seconds into the frame, before Asante ended it just over two minutes later.
Senior Jack Blatchford (Douglas, Mass./Douglas) got the start in net for Bentley and made three saves.
The men's soccer squad will look to even its record at 1-1 when they play their second match in North Andover on Sunday when they take on Caldwell at 12:00 pm.
