Bentley Rallies to Beat AIC in OT 3-2 on Hoffman’s Goal

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Bentley junior Nick Hoffman (East Brookfield, Mass./Quabbin) scored just 48 seconds into overtime to give the Falcons a 3-2 victory over American International on Saturday. Freshman Sean Sullivan (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) had scored the tying goal late in the second half.

Prior to those goals, Bentley had trailed 2-1 for most of the second half. AIC forward Ed Sharman had given the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. The score stayed that way into the second half, until Bentley's Scott Levy (Canton, Mass./Canton) found the back of the net for the fourth time this season, tying the score at one in the 55th minute. Hoffman had the assist on the goal, making a run down the right side and centering a pass to Levy for the goal.

But just over five minutes later, AIC took the lead back at 2-1 on a goal by freshman Lamar Grogan in the 60th minute. The scored stayed that way for more than 32 minutes, until Sullivan leveled the score 2-2 in the 83rd minute, after he finished off a cross by Marty Ryan (Albany, N.Y./Albany) from the right wing.

The match then headed into overtime, for the second straight time for Bentley. After they had dropped Wednesday's game to Saint Michael's 1:14 into overtime, they turned the tide on Saturday. Hoffman's goal came even quicker. Sophomore Lucas Pagano (Miami, Fla./Palmer) got the play started by having a shot blocked. Pagano then got back the loose ball, and found Hoffman for the winner after just 48 seconds.

Falcons goalie Jack Blatchford (Douglas, Mass./Douglas) made four saves to earn the win in goal, while his counterpart, AIC's Sebastian Tamayo, made three stops.

The win improves Bentley's Northeast-10 record to 3-5-1, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 3-5. Bentley will go for another win when they go out of conference, to visit Post on Wednesday at 3:00 pm.
