Bentley, No. 18 Merrimack Battle to 2-2 Draw

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley and No. 18 Merrimack battled to a 2-2 draw Tuesday afternoon in a hard-fought Northeast-10 men's soccer matchup at the Bentley Soccer Field. Both teams take a point from the match.

The Falcons (1-3-1, 0-1-1 NE-10), jumped ahead on two different occasions. They went in front 1-0 in the 28th minute on freshman Evan Hassett's (Glastonbury, Conn.) second goal in as many matches, and took a 2-1 lead on junior Scott Levy's (Canton, Mass.) third goal of the year in the 60th minute.

Bentley took that 1-0 lead into halftime courtesy of Hassett's goal, but Merrimack leveled the score on a 55th minute volley from forward Oscar Zepeda Cagide. Merrimack then equalized at 2-2 in the 70th minute on a goal from forward Augusto Silva, who scored from close range on a shot to the near post.

Hassett's 28th minute goal came after he gathered the rebound from a blocked shot in the penalty area and fired home from 12 yards. Levy scored off a cross from the right wing from midfielder Marty Ryan (Albany, N.Y.).

The best chances in overtime belong to Merrimack. A shot by midfielder Michael Rincon hit the post in the 102nd minute, and a shot through traffic by Michael Buraczynski in the 104th minute was stopped by Falcons goalie Jack Blatchford (Douglas, Mass.), who made six saves on the day.

Bentley's continues its Northeast-10 schedule on Saturday when they host Saint Rose at 1:00 pm
