Bentley's Win Streak Comes to End in Loss at Saint Michael's

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Bentley's five match winning streak, its longest since 1997, came to an end Tuesday afternoon with a 4-0 defeat at Saint Michael's in a Northeast-10 men's soccer match.

The Falcons, who outscored their opponents 11-3 during the five match run, fell behind in just the fourth minute, conceded two goals just four minutes apart in the second half and allowed a fourth goal on a penalty kick.

Bentley, which had moved up to eighth earlier in the day in the NSCAA's East Region rankings, falls to 6-4 on the season and 5-3 in Northeast-10 play, while the Purple Knights improve to 5-3 overall, 5-1 in the NE-10 and have now won five straight themselves.

Freshman forward Aaron DaCosta got the scoring started in the fourth minute, the first of his two straight goals, after converting a rebound off a shot by junior Simon Rodriguez that had been saved by Bentley keeper Jack Blatchford (Douglas, Mass./Douglas).

The score line stayed 1-0 for Saint Michael's past halftime until DaCosta was credited with a goal in the 55th minute, after he blocked a clearance attempt by a Bentley player in its own end and the ball bounced in to an open net.

Just four minutes later DaCosta got on the score sheet again, this time with an assist setting up junior Brian Mas' goal in the 59th minute, with Mas finishing off a two-on-one with DaCosta supplying the pass to make it 3-0.

Rodriguez finished the scoring in the 68th minute when he converted a penalty kick.

The Falcons will look to get back in the win column on Saturday when they host American International at 1:00 pm.
