Bentley Blanks Assumption 3-0 to Win Fifth Straight

WORCESTER, Mass. – Bentley University ran its winning streak to five on Saturday with a 3-0 shutout of Assumption in Northeast-10 men's soccer action. Sophomores Scott Levy (Canton, Mass./Canton), Marty Ryan (Albany, N.Y./Albany) and Stephen Silva (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) had the goals.

The streak is the program's longest without a loss since the 2010 team went eight matches (5-0-3) without being beaten. They improve to 6-3 overall and 5-2 in the NE-10, and will finish the weekend in a tie for second-place in the conference. The loss drops Assumption's marks to 2-4-2 overall and 0-4-2 in the NE-10.

Levy got the scoring started in the 16th minute, his team-leading sixth goal of the year and third straight game finding the back of the net. Another sophomore, Nick Hoffman (East Brookfield, Mass./Quabbin Regional), had the assist.

Bentley pushed its advantage to 2-0 in the 35th minute when Ryan found the back of the net, his first goal of the year and third straight game getting on the score sheet, after he tallied two assists each in the last two games. Senior co-captain Justin Cirasola (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) had the assist.

The Falcons then made it 3-0 as Silva, a back, scored his first career goal in the 58th minute. Ryan notched the assist, his third straight game with an assist.

Sophomore goalie Jack Blatchford (Douglas, Mass./Douglas) was called on to make six saves to earn the win, his fifth of the season and third shutout.

Bentley will look to make it six straight when they face Saint Michael's on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
