Two Goals from Joslyn Help Southern Conn Top Bentley 3-1

WALTHAM, Mass. – Freshman Kevin Joslyn scored two goals, one in each half, to lead Southern Connecticut to a 3-1 victory over Bentley University in Northeast-10 men's soccer on Saturday.

In the NE-10 opener for both squads, the Owls struck twice in the first half, with the opener coming from Joslyn just 47 seconds in. A second half goal by freshman Jose Tirado (Lima, Peru/Colegio FDR) gave Bentley hope, but Joslyn sealed the win for the Owls with his second in the 89th minute.

It was a tough start for Bentley when Southern Conn converted its first chance of the game after they were given a corner kick. Sophomore Mads Larsen delivered the ball into the six-yard box, and Joslyn rose up and headed it in to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead.

Just before halftime freshman Sebastian Brems gave the Owls a 2-0 lead in the 43rd minute. Brems was released down the left wing by a pass from freshman Markus Jacobsen. Brems strode in on goal unmarked and fired a shot from 10 yards out for the goal.

Throughout the afternoon the Falcons struggled to create chances, but got themselves back in the game on Tirado's goal in the 75th minute, a thunderous strike from 25 yards out. After a Bentley shot in the penalty area was blocked by the Owls defense, the ball found its way to the feet of Tirado. He then unleashed a powerful shot that beat Southern Conn keeper Stephen Sasso upper-right to cut Bentley's deficit to 2-1.

In the match's waning moments Bentley brought its players forward looking for the tying goal, but Southern Conn capitalized on the counter for its third goal. A fast break give-and-go between Joslyn and sophomore Daquan King resulted in Joslyn's second goal of the match and a 3-1 Owls lead in the 89th minute.

Southern Conn improves to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the NE-10, while the Falcons drop to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Their next match is Wednesday night at Merrimack.
