Two First Half Goals by Levy Lift Men's Soccer to 2-1 Victory over Queens in Season-Opener

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Two first half goals by sophomore Scott Levy (Canton, Mass./Canton) were enough to give the Bentley University men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Queens (N.Y.) in the season-opener for both squads on Thursday afternoon.

Levy struck first in the 19th minute and again in the 36th to stake the Falcons to a 2-0 halftime advantage. Despite a 71st minute goal by the Knights' Peter Touros to halve their lead, the Falcons hung on to win their second straight season-opener. They are also unbeaten in season-openers under head coach Gary Crompton (5-0-1).

Levy's first goal came off a rebound from a shot by senior Justin Cirasola (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) that hit the post and bounced Levy's way, allowing him to beat Queens goalkeeper Sean Geoghegan who came out to play the loose ball.

A little over 17 minutes later Levy was on the mark again to double Bentley's lead to 2-0. He outran the Knights defense to a loose ball in the penalty area and slotted home past Geohegan for his second goal of the afternoon.

Queens nearly got on the scoreboard in the 66th minute when a header by freshman Pol Narbona hit the crossbar. But the Knights did break through in the 71st minute on the goal by Touros. After a shot by Glen Reid hit the post, Touros was in position to collect the loose ball and chip it in to cut Bentley's lead to 2-1.

However, the Falcons hung on over the final 18 minutes to claim the victory.

Junior goalie Nick Gagnon (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual), making his first career appearance for Bentley, stopped three shots for the win.

Bentley returns to the pitch on Saturday afternoon against New York Tech in a bid to start the season 2-0. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 pm.
