Bentley Takes Third Straight, 1-0 Over Saint Rose

WALTHAM, Mass. – A fifth minute goal by freshman Marty Ryan (Albany, N.Y./Albany) was all Bentley University needed on Sunday to beat Saint Rose 1-0 for its third straight victory. The win moves the Falcons up to fifth in the Northeast-10 standings.

Bentley is now unbeaten in its last four matches (3-0-1), and its record improves to 7-3-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the NE-10.

The match's only goal came early on as Ryan buried his second of the campaign. Junior Cody Osgood (Harvard, Mass./The Bromfield School) played a through ball in midfield to give Ryan a clear run at goal. Ryan then fired a 15-yard shot from the right corner of the penalty area that went off the hands of Saint Rose's Todd Lawson for the goal.

The Falcons created two good chances in the match's later stages that would have put it away but were unable to convert on either.

The first came off a pass by freshman Nick Hoffman (East Brookfield, Mass./Quabbin Regional) in midfield to Osgood, who dribbled in on net and fired a shot that hit the post. Osgood then retrieved the rebound and sent a cross to Matthew Leibowitz (Holliston, Mass./Worcester Academy) on the far post for a shot that went just high.

The second chance was created by a run down the middle of the field by Stephen Silva (Suffield, Conn./Suffield), who played a pass to Michael Kahn (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) in space. Kahn then got off a shot that went just wide of the net.

Even though Bentley was unable to add on to its lead, they hung on to seal the win.

The Falcons will go for their fourth straight win on Wednesday when they visit Saint Anselm for a 3:30 pm match.
