Bentley Upsets No. 12 SNHU on M. Kahn's OT Goal

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Michael Kahn (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) scored in the 96th minute as Bentley University upset the 12th ranked team in Division II Southern New Hampshire 1-0 in overtime Tuesday afternoon in a Northeast-10 men's soccer match.

The goal came after a shot by senior Brennan DaCosta (San Diego, Calif./Westview) from the left corner of the penalty area was saved by SNHU keeper Dom DiMaggio on the near post. DiMaggio though could not control the rebound and was out of position as the ball bounced right to Kahn on the far post, giving him a shot into a wide open net for the win.

The goal was Kahn's third of the season and his second overtime goal of the year after scoring the winner against Assumption on Sept. 22. It's also Bentley's (6-3-2, 4-2-2 NE-10) second straight dramatic victory after DaCosta scored in the 90th minute in Saturday's win at Le Moyne.

Southern New Hampshire (10-2, 6-2 NE-10) is dealt just its second loss of the season and its six-match winning streak comes to an end.

Prior to the goal the Penmen largely controlled play, out-possessing and outshooting Bentley 13-3 before the final play.

But Bentley was able to stay in the match thanks to strong defending, led by senior captain Weston Zeiner (North Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial), and senior goalie Alex Pilitsis (Brunswick, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy).

Pilitsis made four saves, including two impressive saves in the second half on shots by SNHU's Chris Tsonis, who entered the match tied for the league lead in goals. Bentley was also fortunate to escape a shot by midfielder Christian Rodriguez in the 13th minute that hit the crossbar, and two shots by forward Kenny Doublette in overtime that went just high.

The Falcons will go for their third straight victory on Sunday when they host Saint Rose.
