Bridgeport Hands Bentley First Loss, 2-1

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Jonny Ortiz and freshman Alex Longobardi scored in each half for Bridgeport as the visitors came away with a 2-1 victory over the Bentley men's soccer team on Tuesday in a non-conference match. Freshman Marty Ryan (Albany, N.Y./Albany) scored a late goal for the Falcons.

With Bentley trailing 2-0, Ryan had a break down the right wing and fired a low shot that beat goalie Augustin Prados to his left for his first career goal in the 86th minute.

But that was as close as Bentley could get as Bridgeport held on for the win.

Ortiz opened the scoring for the Purple Knights in the 21st minute. Sophomore Danny Ruiz helped create the goal, making a steal in midfield and feeding Ortiz a through ball that he latched onto for an open shot after a few dribbles.

It wasn't until the 69th minute that Bridgeport added onto its lead with a goal from Longobardi. Ruiz sent a cross in from the left post that deflected right to Longobardi on the other post for a header into a wide open net.

With Bentley struggling to create scoring chances on the day, that two goal lead proved too much to overcome with just over 20 minutes remaining in the match.

The loss snaps the Falcons' three-match winning streak to begin the season, dropping their record to 3-1. Bridgeport improves to 1-4. Bentley is back on the pitch on Saturday when they face AIC on the road at 6:00 p.m.
