T. Kahn Nets Winner as Bentley Opens with 3-2 Victory over Molloy

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Tyler Kahn (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) scored a 73rd minute winner as Bentley University posted a 3-2, season-opening victory over Molloy in non-conference men's soccer Saturday afternoon at the Bentley soccer field.

Molloy rallied from 2-0 down with goals in the 40th and 56th minutes, only for Kahn to put Bentley back in front for good. The goal came off a thrown in from junior Jordan Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland), who also had a goal in the game. Bridge's throw from the sideline found its way through the traffic in front of the net to Kahn on the far post, who volleyed it past goalie Michael Hunter to give the Falcons a 3-2 advantage.

The Lions had a great chance to tie the match minutes later when senior Tyler De La Torre teed up junior Dan Brown for a shot at the top of the box, but Bentley senior goalie Alex Pilitsis (Brunswick, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) made a great diving save to his right to deny Brown. That proved to be Molloy's best chance to tie the rest of the way.

Bentley jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 7th minute on Bridge's goal off a corner kick from Brennan DaCosta (San Diego, Calif./Westview), who was playing in his first match after missing nearly all last season with an injury.

DaCosta made his return even better in the 33rd minute by scoring a goal of his own on a shot to the near post off a deflection of a shot by freshman Nick Hoffman (East Brookfield, Mass./Quabbin Regional) to make it 2-0 for Bentley.

The two-goal lead would be short-lived however, as Molloy's Mathias Coni scored on a shot from 18 yards out in the 40th minute.  The Lions tied it in the 56th minute on a breakaway goal by Brown. Pilitsis saved Brown's initial shot on goal but couldn't gather the rebound, allowing Brown to slot his second shot into the net.

Molloy falls to 1-1 on the season with the loss, while Bentley is 1-0 with its opening day win. The Falcons' next match is their Northeast-10 Conference opener at Stonehill on Wednesday.
