Murphy Named NEILA Div. II Coach of the Year; Six Players Named to All-New England Teams

Waltham, Mass. – Bentley head men's lacrosse coach Jim Murphy was named the NEILA Division II Coach of the Year, and six of his players were named to the All-New England teams.

Murphy was previously named the 2019 Northeast 10 Coach of the Year for the 6th time in his career when the conference announced its postseason awards on May 1st. This is now the 5th time he has been named the NEILA's Div. II Coach of the Year.

In his 27th season at the helm of the Bentley men's lacrosse program, he guided his team to a 9-4 regular season record and a 7-4 mark in the NE10 and the No. 5 seed in the NE10 playoffs. He earned his 200th career win with a victory over Saint Michael's on April 6, which made him just the 5th Division II coach all-time to surpass 200 wins.

Six of his players were named to the All-New England teams; midfielders Matt Brooks (Brunswick, Maine/Phillips Exeter) and Sam Hurley (Medfield, Mass./Medfield), goalie Michael Haggan (Braintree, Mass./BC High), short stick midfielder Connor Baughan (Foxborough, Mass./Portsmouth Abbey) and defenseman Jack Taddeo (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) were all voted to the first team. Attacker Alex Astarita (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) was picked to the second team.

Astarita was a team captain and led Bentley in each of goals (29), assists (13) and points (42) for his senior season. He had six games with at least three goals, and equaled his career high with six points, on four goals and two assists, in Bentley's 11-8 win at Assumption on April 10.

He finished his career 8th in program history with 86 career goals, and 11th in points with 124.

Brooks completed his junior season second on the team in both goals (22) and points (31). He had four hat tricks on the season and three games with at least four points. He was previously named third team All-NE10.

Hurley, a senior and a team captain, is an All-New England selection for the third year in a row, and second year in a row as a first team selection. He was 4th on the team with 16 goals and 2nd in assists with 12, which gave him 28 points on the season, tied for 3rd on the team. He surpassed 100 points for his career on April 20 at Pace, and finished his career with 63 goals and 42 assists for 105 points in 53 games.

Haggan was one of the top goalies in the NE10 in 2019, and was previously recognized with a second team All-Conference selection. In 12 regular season games he posted a 57.4 save percentage, made 152 total saves and had a 9.95 goals against average. He was named the NE10 Goalie of the Week on April 9 after two stellar games against Southern N.H. and Saint Michael's, where he combined for an 85.7 save percentage in two wins.

Taddeo started 13 games for Bentley in 2019, and was one of the team's top defenseman and a team captain. He picked up 20 ground balls and caused six turnovers on the season. Taddeo finished his career with 42 games played, 29 starts, 67 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers.

Baughan added the All-New England selection to his third team All-NE10 recognition for his sophomore season. He led the Falcons with 40 ground balls and caused six turnovers, and also chipped in offensively with three goals.
