WALTHAM, Mass. – No. 2 ranked Le Moyne completed a perfect 15-0 regular season by defeating Bentley 17-2 in the final game of the season.
On Senior Night, the program paid tribute to the team's four seniors for their contributions, midfielders Mike Astarita (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) and Matt Brigham (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth), defenseman Nick Wells (Exeter, N.H./Governor's Academy) and goalie Daniel Shaughnessy (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury).
Bentley scored the game's first goal just before the 6:00 mark off the stick of freshman Alex Astarita (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) to give them a 1-0 lead. They ended up keeping Le Moyne off the scoreboard for 12-plus minutes of the 1st quarter until sophomore Justin Kesselring found the back of the net at the 3:44 mark. The Dolphins would score twice more before the end of the quarter and lead 3-1 going into the 2nd.
Le Moyne scored the first goal of the 2nd from freshman Jack Vajda at the 11:18 mark. But off a face-off win by Max Adler (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./Northfield Mt. Hermon), who went 14-16 on the night with 9 ground balls, Bentley scored less than a minute later off a shot by sophomore Matt Sanford (Stratham, N.H./Bow) to make the score 4-2.
Le Moyne however scored three unanswered goals before halftime to lead 7-2 at the break. And they started to pull away with five goals in the 3rd quarter.
Bentley did out shoot Le Moyne 36-34 and win the ground ball battle 26-25. They finished the season with a 6-7 overall record and 5-6 Northeast-10.
