Bentley Picks Up 12-10 Win at Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. – Sophomore attack Matt Sanford (Stratham, N.H./Bow) had four goals to lead the Bentley offense as the men's lacrosse team picked up a 12-10 road win at Catawba in a non-conference game Tuesday night.

A 3-0 run from the end of the 3rd quarter into the 4th by Bentley was the difference, as the Falcons' record to goes to 1-1 on the season.

A goal by freshman George Cardillo (Andover, Mass./Andover) with six seconds left in the 3rd quarter started the run and gave Bentley a 10-8 lead. Goals in the first 1:10 of the 4th quarter by Max Adler (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./NMH) and Sanford gave Bentley a 12-8 lead.

Sanford's goal was actually the last goal Bentley scored, and Catawba chipped away with two goals in the final 3:29, the second one coming at the 1:17 mark, but they shut the door from that point for the victory.

Bentley raced out to a 4-0 lead in the 1st quarter, which featured man-up goals from freshman Alex Astarita (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) and sophomore Nick Buttafuoco (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) to complete the run at the end of the quarter. The 2nd quarter featured two, 2-0 runs by the Falcons on either side of a 3-0 run by Catawba as Bentley led 7-5 at halftime.

Sanford had two goals in the 3rd quarter, in addition to Cardillo's goal at the end of the 3rd, that gave Bentley a 10-8 lead going into the final 15 minutes.

Bentley returns to the field on Saturday at home to open Northeast-10 play against Franklin Pierce.
