SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 1 ranked Le Moyne used a big first half to propel themselves to an 18-8 victory over visiting Bentley in Northeast-10 men's lacrosse action on Saturday. Midfielder Matt Brigham (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey) had two goals for Bentley.
The Dolphins, who improve to 10-0 in NE-10 games, started the game on a 5-0 run and led by that score before the halfway point of the first quarter. Bentley responded with two goals before the quarter ended, first by midfielder Bob Coleman (Southington, Conn./Xavier) at the 3:22 mark, and then by attacker Matt Sanford (Stratham, N.H./Bow) with 20 seconds left, to make it a 5-2 game going into the second quarter.
But Le Moyne began to pull away in the second by outscoring the Falcons 8-0, and they led 13-2 at halftime. Midfielder Chris Breiner had two consecutive goals and attacker Kevin Kelly scored a man-up goal as part of the Le Moyne attack.
The Falcons turned it around a bit in the second half, outscoring the Dolphins 6-5. After Le Moyne opened the third quarter with a goal by midfielder Brian Rogers, Brigham and midfielder David Phelps (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) scored back to back at the 11:51 and 10:49 marks, respectively. Brigham added his second goal of the quarter with 3:08 left.
In the fourth quarter, senior Matt Dente (Reading, Mass./Reading) netted his team leading 21st goal of the season. Senior Cutler Dimond (Marblehead, Mass./Tabor Academy) and midfielder Brady Palmer (Wolfeboro, N.H./Brewster Academy) also scored for Bentley in the final 4:46.
The Falcons fall to 6-5 overall and 5-5 in the NE-10. They are back on the field next Saturday at Pace to close out the regular season.
