No. 4 Merrimack Halts Bentley’s Streak, 13-5

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – No. 4 ranked Merrimack halted Bentley's three game winning streak on Wednesday night with a 13-5 victory over the Falcons. Senior attack Cutler Dimond (Marblehead, Mass./Tabor Academy) had two goals for Bentley.

Bentley trailed just 5-4 after Dimond's second of the night at the 7:12 mark of the second quarter. But less than a minute later, a goal by Merrimack's Tucker Schwarz started a 4-0 run that stretched into early in the third quarter. A goal by attacker Jamie Shand made it 9-4 for the Warriors at the 12:28 mark of the third quarter.

Senior Bobby Hinds (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) struck at the 8:22 mark of the third quarter, his 14th of the season, to get Bentley to back to within four goals at 9-5. That however, was Bentley's last goal of the game as the Warriors pulled away. Schwarz added his third goal of the game in the fourth quarter, one of four for the team in the final quarter.

The teams traded goals in the early going with each scoring in the opening 3:00. Freshman Matt Sanford (Stratham, N.H./Bow) canceled out an early goal by Schwarz. After a goal by Dimond tied the game at two at the 7:34 mark, Merrimack closed the quarter with three straight goals to take a 5-2 lead. But Bentley responded with goals in the second quarter by senior Matt Dente (Reading, Mass./Reading), his 20th of the year, and Dimond, to make it a 5-4 game.

The defeat drops Bentley's record to 5-4 in the Northeast-10, while Merrimack's conference record goes to 8-1. The Falcons are back in action on Saturday when they visit Le Moyne for a 1:00 pm game.
