Dente’s Four Goals Leads Bentley Past So. New Hampshire 11-7

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior attack Matt Dente (Reading, Mass./Reading) scored four goals to lead the Bentley offense in an 11-7 victory over Southern New Hampshire at home Tuesday night in a Northeast-10 matchup.

Dente scored three in the second half to help the Falcons pull away. A 4-2 third quarter for Bentley, which featured two goals from Dente and a man-up goal from senior Cutler Dimond (Marblehead, Mass./Tabor), proved to be the difference as they led 10-5 after three quarters.

Two first quarter goals from freshman Chris Wiggins (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) helped stake the Falcons to a 3-1 lead after 15 minutes. Freshman Joe DiRaimo (Huntington, N.Y./John Glenn) also scored in the opening quarter.

The Penmen scored the first two goals of the second quarter to tie the game 3-3, with the tying goal from midfielder Zach Jacobs at the 8:41 mark. But Bentley shut them out the rest of the quarter, and scored three more times over the final 6:13 of the half. Midfielder Matt Brigham's (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey) 13th goal of the season gave them a 4-3 lead, and they led the rest of the way. Dente, at 4:53, and senior Bobby Hinds (West Hartford, Conn./Conard), at 3:33, scored before halftime.

Southern scored the first goal of the third quarter, one of three from midfielder Cameron Joyce, at the 13:42 mark to get to within 6-4. But Bentley scored two straight from Hinds and Dente, with Dente's goal making it 8-4 with 5:59 left in the quarter. After a Southern goal, Dimond's man-up strike, with Brigham assisting, and Dente's third of the game, inside the final 3:26 of the quarter, made it 10-5.

The Penmen scored twice in the fourth quarter, but the goals came over eight minutes apart. Dente scored his fourth of the game with 54 seconds remaining.

Sophomore Max Adler (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./Northfield) won 15 of 17 face-offs and picked up six ground balls to help Bentley control possession.

The Falcons have now won two straight and improve 5-4 overall and 4-3 in the Northeast-10. They'll go for three straight on Saturday, Senior Night, when they host Saint Michael's at 7:00 pm.
