GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – A 4-0 third quarter run by top-seed Adelphi proved to be the difference as the Panthers defeated fourth-seeded Bentley 13-8 in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Championships on Friday afternoon.

Bentley led 2-1 after the first quarter and trailed only 4-3 at halftime against Adelphi, which came into the game ranked No. 3 in Division II. The game was tied 5-5 after the third goal of the game by junior Bobby Hinds (West Hartford, Conn./Conard), but the Panthers created some separation with the 4-0 run, and an extended 7-1 run that went into the fourth quarter.

Goals by David Phelps (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) and Hinds, and six saves by senior goalie Josh Baker (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) helped Bentley lead 2-1 after the first 15 minutes. Bentley continued to deny the Panther offense into the second quarter, until Adelphi tied it on a goal by junior Jamie McAndrew at the 5:35 mark. Bentley responded with a goal from Hinds with 4:40 left, but Adelphi answered with two goals over the remaining 2:42 to lead 4-3 at halftime.

Adelphi scored the first goal of the second half, but it was Bentley scoring twice in a span of 44 seconds to tie the game 5-5. Junior Cutler Dimond (Marblehead, Mass./Tabor Academy) scored first at the 9:35 mark. Following an Adelphi penalty, Hinds scored his third of the game with Bentley a man-up to tie it.

But just as quickly as Bentley tied the game Adelphi went ahead by two goals again, scoring twice in 30 seconds. Senior attack Ikerson Hooper then scored twice in a span of 1:06 to give Adelphi a 9-5 lead with 1:59 left in the third quarter.

Dimond though scored his second of the quarter with eight seconds left to get Bentley to within 9-6.

Neither team scored for the first half of the fourth quarter, but a goal by Adelphi's McAndrew with 6:48 left started a 3-0 run that gave them a 12-6 lead. A man-up goal by Dimond and a goal by senior Nick Astarita (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) were the final two goals of the game for Bentley.

Adelphi advances on to the finals on Sunday where they will play Merrimack. The Falcons' season comes to a close at 8-7.
