OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Tough defense by New York Tech helped the 10^th-ranked Bears take an 8-2 decision over Bentley University in non-conference men's lacrosse Wednesday afternoon. Grad student Steve Caditz (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) and junior Cutler Dimond (Marblehead, Mass./Tabor Academy) had the goals for the Falcons.

NYIT senior attack Cory Triola scored the game's first goal 3:32 into the first quarter to give the Bears a 1-0 lead, the first of his four goals on the afternoon. Caditz equalized for the Falcons a little less than two minutes later, but they would not score again until the fourth quarter.

Triola scored twice more in the opening quarter to give NYIT a 3-1 lead after 15 minutes.

Bentley limited the Bears to just one goal each in the second and third quarters. But the NYIT defense held Bentley to just five shots on goal during those two quarters.

NYIT tacked on three more goals in the fourth quarter, including Triola's fourth of the game. Dimond found the back of the net for the Falcons at the 5:58 mark, his third of the season.

The Bears, who were already playing their sixth game of the season, improve to 4-2. While Bentley drops to 0-2 on the young season. They will open Northeast-10 play in its next game, which is Saturday afternoon at AIC.
