Brigham Scores Four to Lead Bentley’s Rout of AIC, 15-3

WALTHAM, Mass. – Freshman attack Matt Brigham (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey) scored four goals to lead the Bentley University men's lacrosse team to a 15-3 victory over American International in the Falcons' Northeast-10 opener Sunday afternoon.

Bentley led from nearly start to finish to earn its first win of the season and to improve its record to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the NE-10. The Yellow Jackets fall to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the NE-10.

Brigham got started early, scoring just 3:03 into the first quarter with Steve Caditz (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) on the assist, one of four on the day for him. The Falcons scored three more times in the last 3:11 of the first quarter, and twice in the last 56 seconds, to lead 4-1 after 15 minutes.

Bentley outscored the Yellow Jackets 4-0 in the second quarter to lead 8-1 at halftime. Brigham scored the first goal of the quarter in a man-up situation. Sophomore Doug Mahony (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) had a goal in the quarter and junior Jason Knight (Portland, Maine/Portland) had two.

AIC got the first goal of the second half from sophomore Jeff Sienkiewicz at the 10:05 mark to cut the deficit to 8-2. They temporarily kept Bentley off the scoreboard until Brigham scored two more just 38 seconds part towards the end of the quarter to give the Falcons a 10-2 lead heading into the fourth.

Bentley continued to pour it on the final quarter, getting a man-up goal from Nick Astarita (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) and a goal from Caditz, among others. Astarita was one of four Falcons, along with Brigham, Knight and senior Tim Matheson (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) to score multiple goals.

Bentley is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Syracuse to take on Le Moyne.
