Bentley Explodes in Second Half to Post 14-4 Win over Franklin Pierce
RINDGE, N.H. – Bentley University outscored Franklin Pierce 11-1 in the second half on its way to a 14-4 victory over the Ravens Sunday afternoon in Northeast-10 men's lacrosse. The win is the second straight for the Falcons, who improve to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the NE-10.
The game was tied 3-3 after the first half but Bentley took over in the third quarter, outscoring the hosts 8-1. They went on a 4-0 run to open the quarter with all the goals coming with a man-up. There were four different goal scorers, junior Richard Travers (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow), seniors Steve Murray (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) and Matt Boilard (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug) and junior Brendan Grant (Walpole, Mass./Xaverian Brothers).
Junior Eric Harries broke the run with a goal, but Bentley went on another 4-0 run over the last 4:58 of the quarter to lead 11-4 going into the fourth. Boilard, senior Zach Paz (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt), Travers and Grant, with a man-down goal, were the scorers.
Franklin Pierce led 3-1 at one point early in the second quarter, but junior James Gilloran (Guilford, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) and Travers scored before halftime.
Senior goalie Mike O'Neil (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) made 15 saves to earn the win.
Bentley is back in action on Tuesday night when they host Saint Anselm.
