Amengual Scores Four to Lead No. 11 NYIT past No. 9 Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior attack Ryan Amengual scored four goals and had two assists to lead 1th-ranked New York Tech to a 15-8 victory over ninth-ranked Bentley University in non-conference men's lacrosse Wednesday afternoon.

Graduate student attack Chris Lubin added three goals and two assists for the Bears, who improve to 3-2 on the season. Bentley, playing its home-opener, falls to 0-2 on the year.

NYIT took a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game on goals by Bobby Calhoun and Lubin, but Bentley's Matt Boilard (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug) scored twice in 48 seconds, one coming with a man-advantage, to tie the score with just over six minutes left in the first quarter.

The Bears scored the first three goals of the second quarter, but the Falcons got two of the next three from juniors Richard Travers (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and J.D. Ayer (Rochester, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit), making the score 6-4 with 3:47 remaining in the half.

However, Amengual scored just six seconds before the end of the half, and the Bears carried that momentum into the third quarter, scoring four unanswered goals in what proved to be the game's decisive run. Freshman Cory Triola scored twice during the run as NYIT took an 11-4 lead with just under nine minutes left in the third quarter.

Senior Troy Neville (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) and junior Brendan Grant (Walpole, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) scored two in a row for the Falcons, but NYIT closed out the quarter with three straight, two coming from Amengual, to take a 14-6 lead into the fourth quarter.

Boilard finished the game with a hat trick for Bentley, and Grant had a team-high four points on two goals and two assists.

NYIT's junior goalie William McGee made 11 saves for the win.

Bentley is back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Adelphi for its Northeast-10 opener.
