Hamblet Earns NCAA Statistical Champion Honors for Short-Handed Goals

Waltham, Mass. – Bentley University's Brendan Hamblet (Hopkinton, Mass.) earned NCAA statistical champion honors for short-handed goals for the 2019-20 Division I men's hockey season.

Hamblet, a junior center, had a strong season for the Falcons. He had 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points, and he played in all 36 of the team's games. He ranked 3rd on the team in goals and 5th in points.

Hamblet scored his short-handed goals against Robert Morris (Nov. 15), at Holy Cross (Nov. 29) and against Canisius (Jan. 10). He shares statistical champion honors with six other players in Division I; Marc Michaelis (Minn. State), Alex Newhook (Boston College), Keaton Mastrodonato (Canisius), Justin Richards (Minn. Duluth), Jason Cotton (Sacred Heart) and Alec Rauhauser (Bowling Green).

As a team, Bentley finished the year with the second most short-handed goals scored in the nation with seven, behind only Boston College's nine. The other Bentley players to score short-handed goals were sophomore Jakov Novak with two, and one each by senior Ryner Gorowsky and freshman Matt Gosiewski.

The Falcons ended the season with a 17-16-3 record. They had just swept Canisius in the first round of the Atlantic Hockey playoffs and were preparing to face AIC in the quarterfinals when the season was cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.
