Bentley Beats Holy Cross 6-2 to Close out Regular Season with Series Sweep

Worcester, Mass. – Bentley closed out the regular season with a 6-2 victory at Holy Cross on Saturday night to complete the series sweep. Junior Brendan Hamblet (Hopkinton, Mass.) had two goals in the victory.

Hamblet also had two goals in last night's 3-2 home win for four goals scored on the weekend. Senior Jonathan Desbiens (Montreal, Quebec) was also among the goal scores for Bentley, and he added three assists for a four point night, a career high.

Senior goalie Aidan Pelino (Oakville, Ontario) made 19 saves for his second win of the weekend.

Bentley will now host Canisius next weekend in a best of three first round series in the 8-9 seed matchup.

Bentley led 2-1 after the first period, with Hamblet and senior captain Brett Orr (Elkhorn, Manitoba) scoring. Hamblet flipped in the rebound off a shot by defenseman Charlie Marchand (Edmonton, Alberta) that was saved by Matt Radomsky for the goal at 8:32.

Orr then scored his 3rd goal of the season at 13:44, after he fired a bouncing puck from just inside the blue through traffic in front of the net.

Bentley then tacked on two goals late in the 2nd period. Freshman defenseman Marcus Walter (St. Albert, Alberta) scored his first career goal at 14:49 with a slap shot blast from above the left face-off circle. Just under two minutes later, sophomore Dylan Pitera (Culver, Indiana) scored on the power play to give Bentley a 4-1 lead. Senior defenseman Connor Brassard (Fitchburg, Mass.) fed Desbiens a pass, who skated through the zone until he found Pitera on the right wing for a one-timer that beat Radomsky to the short side for the goal.

In the 3rd period Desbiens netted his 12th goal of the season, and 48th of his career, at 9:17. Brassard made an interception in the defensive zone and made a long outlet pass to Desbiens after he got behind the Holy Cross defense. Desbiens then beat Radomsky with a shot to the stick side for a 5-1 Bentley lead.

Hamblet scored his second goal of the night and fourth of the weekend at 16:36 to make the score 6-2.
