No. 11 Arizona State Halts Bentley’s Winning Streak at Five

Waltham, Mass. – No. 11 ranked Arizona State stopped Bentley's winning streak at five games on Saturday night, with a 3-0 victory over the Falcons in front of nearly 1,900 at Bentley Arena.

The Sun Devils, who were making their first visit to Bentley Arena, picked up their 5th win in a row and improved to 20-9-3 on the season.

Bentley's record drops to 13-14-3.

Bentley outshot ASU 28-17 on the night, but could not put one past Sun Devils goalie Evan DeBrouwer.

The Falcons outshot ASU 12-1 in the first period, but the Sun Devils scored on their only shot on target of the period. Center Filips Buncis had an initial shot on goal blocked by Bentley's Brendan Hamblet (Hopkinton, Mass.) but the rebound fell to Buncis, who scored on the second effort for a 1-0 lead at the 7:51 mark.

ASU went up 2-0 at 15:44 of the 2nd period, with Buncis the provider for the goal this time. A centering pass off a break into the offensive zone found its way to senior Brett Gruber, who lifted a shot over the glove of goaltender Aidan Pelino for the goal.

Bentley continued to pour pressure on in the 3rd period, including a good shorthanded chance for Jakov Novak (Windsor, Ontario), only for DeBrouwer to again come up with the save.

ASU was able to put the game away when defenseman Brinson Pasichnuk scored an empty net goal from the defensive zone with 50 seconds left to make it a 3-0 game. Gruber won the defensive zone face-off and played the puck back to Pasichnuk, who flung a shot the length of the ice for the goal.

Despite the defeat, Bentley put itself into good position in the AHA standings with the five game winning streak. They next face a big series at RIT, beginning next Friday night in Rochester.
