Bentley Puts Seven Past Mercyhurst to Sweep Series

Erie, Pa. – Bentley scored a season high seven goals in a 7-4 victory at Mercyhurst on Saturday night to complete the series sweep.

The Falcons scored the seven goals on 34 shots. Senior Jonathan Desbiens (Montreal, Quebec) had two goals, and senior defenseman Connor Brassard (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Jakov Novak (Windsor, Ontario) each had three points. Brassard had one goal and two assists and Novak had three assists.

In all, 14 of Bentley's 19 skaters had at least one point on the night.

The Falcons actually trailed 2-0 early in the 1st period, but erased that deficit with two goals just over two minutes apart. Desbiens scored at the 14:03 mark after he tipped in a shot by Matt Lombardozzi (Leominster, Mass.). Brassard then scored his 2nd goal of the weekend at 16:26 to tie the score 2-2.

The Falcons then took the lead for good at the 6:45 mark of the 2nd period when sophomore defenseman Ethan Roswell (Paradise Valley, Arizona) blasted in shot from the point after a loose puck bounced to him.

After Roswell's goal, two Mercyhurst penalties led to a 5-on-3 power play for the Falcons, and they took advantage when freshman Matt Gosiewski (Wilton, Conn.) scored with a shot from the top of the left face-off circle for his 9th goal of the year. That made it 4-2 at 9:17 of the 2nd frame.

The Falcons scored their third goal of the period on freshman Lucas Vanroboys' (Thamesville, Ontario) second goal of the weekend at 16:15 to lead 5-2 after two periods.

The Lakers got to within 5-3 after a power play goal by left wing James Anderson 43 seconds into the 3rd period. But Bentley put the game out of reach with goals by sophomore  Brendan Walkom (Pittsburgh, Pa.) at 9:09 and Desbiens' second goal of the night and third of the weekend at 14:12.

Senior goalie Aidan Pelino (Oakville, Ontario) made 23 saves to earn the win, the 35th win of his career which moved him into a tie for 2nd most in the program's history.

Bentley (10-13-3, 8-11-2) earned six points from the weekend sweep. They will look to keep the momentum going next weekend when they host Niagara for a series at Bentley Arena.
