Bentley Scores Four Power Play Goals in 6-3 Win over Mercyhurst

Waltham, Mass. – Bentley scored four power play goals and sophomore goalie Fraser Kirk (Burlington, Ontario) earned the win in his first career start as the Falcons defeated Mercyhurst 6-3 on Saturday night to earn a series split.

Kirk made 22 saves to earn the win and held the Lakers scoreless for 35-plus minutes. Six different players scored for Bentley, and senior Jonathan Desbiens (Montreal, Quebec) led the team with three points, one goal and two assists.

Junior Luke Santerno (Smithers, B.C.) got Bentley off to a strong start with his 2nd goal of the series at 5:40 after he knocked in a rebound off a saved shot from Matt Gosiewski (Wilton, Conn.).

Later in the period Bentley scored two power play goals just 1:05 apart. A quick pass on the point from Jakov Novak (Windsor, Ontario) to Will Garin (Mound, Minn.) saw Garin rip a one-timer from the left face-off circle for a 2-0 lead at 14:52.

A Mercyhurst penalty for boarding at 15:14 set Bentley up with another power play chance, and they converted 43 seconds into the man-advantage with Novak's 5th goal of the season after he one-timed a pass from Desbiens, this time with the shot inside the right face-off circle.

In the second period, senior Ryner Gorowsky (Lino Lakes, Minn.) put Bentley ahead 4-0 at 5:42. Freshman Joe Winkelmann (St. Louis, Mo.) fed Gorowsky cutting towards goal, and Gorowsky put a wrister top shelf to extend the lead to four goals.

Mercyhurst pulled a goal back on a 5-on-3 power play with the goal coming from left winger James Anderson at 15:24, but Bentley still took a 4-1 lead into the 3rd period.

Bentley maintained its 4-1 lead through the first 15 minutes of the 3rd period until the action picked up in the final minutes. Mercyhurst scored on a delayed penalty to make the score 4-2 with 4:58 remaining, but Bentley responded with power play goals Desbiens and defenseman Connor Brassard (Fitchburg, Mass.) to pull away again.

The Falcons will next travel out to Air Force for two games in Colorado on Friday and Saturday. Both games will begin at 9:05 eastern time.
