Mercyhurst Rallies Late to Top Bentely in OT 4-3

Waltham, Mass. – Mercyhurst's James Anderson scored 30 seconds into overtime to give the visiting Lakers a 4-3 victory over Bentley on Friday night at Bentley Arena.

The Lakers overcome a 3-2 deficit in the third period, which included a power play, extra attacker goal by defenseman Owen Norton with 50 seconds left in regulation. Anderson's winner in OT came with the Lakers on a 5-on-3 power play advantage.

Bentley looked strong through the first two periods and led 3-1 on goals by Ryner Gorowsky (Lino Lakes, Minn.) and Luke Santerno (Smithers, B.C.) in the first period and freshman Joe Winklemann (St. Louis, Mo.) in the 2nd period.

Gorowsky's goal came on the power play at 12:48 of the first after he tipped in a loose puck in front of the net, with Jonathan Desbiens (Montreal, Quebec) and Jakov Novak (Windsor, Ontario) on the assists.

Santerno's goal, at 18:46, came after defenseman Marcus Walter (St. Albert, Alberta) chipped pass off the boards in the defensive zone. Santerno then streaked down the wing and fired a shot that ringed off the post and in to give Bentley a 2-1 lead.

Bentley had the only goal of the 2nd period on Winklemann's first career tally at 10:06. The freshman skated down the middle, around two Mercyhurst defenseman and deked around goalie Stefano Cantali for the goal.

In the third period, Mercyhurst began to climb back in it when center Steven Ipri scored a power play goal at 7:06 to cut Bentley's lead to 3-2. Bentley held on to the lead until Norton's goal with 50 ticks remaining and Mercyhurst's net empty to give them a 6-on-4 advantage.

Bentley will now go for the series split tomorrow night at 7:05 pm.
