Four Bentley Hockey Student-Athletes Named AHCA All-American Scholars
Waltham, Mass. – Four student-athletes from the Bentley University hockey team were named Division I All-American Scholars by the American Hockey Coaches Association; recent graduates Tanner Jago (Brandon, Manitoba) and Jake Bryniarksi (Rochester, N.Y.) and rising seniors Jake Kauppila (Gurnee, Ill.) and Brett Orr (Elkhorn, Manitoba).
The criteria to be named an AHCA All-American Scholar is to have attained a 3.60 GPA or better in each semester during the academic year, and to have played in at least 40 percent of his team's games.
Jago graduated from Bentley in May with a degree in finance, and recently signed with the AHL's Texas Stars. He finished his Bentley career as one of the best defensemen in the program's history with 86 points, third most all-time among defensemen, and 151 games played, second most ever among all Bentley players. He was the Falcons' team captain this past season, and was one of just five student-athletes in men's hockey named to the first team for the Senior CLASS Award.
Bryniarski earned both his master's degree and undergrad degree from Bentley in just four years. He earned his master's in business analytics and undergrad in corporate finance and accounting. Like Jago, he was named to the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic team all four years of his Bentley career.
On the ice Jake helped Bentley to a 3-2 win over Sacred Heart last season with a 22 save effort, and made 27 saves in a tie at Army West Point in the final game of the regular season.
Kauppila majors in corporate finance and accounting, and was named to the AHA All-Academic team for a third straight time. On the ice, he had seven goals and five assists in 33 games last season. For his career, he has already topped the 100 career games mark at 106, and has 17 goals and 12 assists.
Orr majors in finance and was likewise named to the AHA All-Academic team for a third straight season. One of the team's top defensemen, he was +10 last season and had eight assists in 31 games. In his career, he has played in 104 games with four goals and 35 assists.
