Santerno Named to Atlantic Hockey All-Rookie Team

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University's freshman center Luke Santerno (Smithers, B.C.) has been named to the Atlantic Hockey All-Rookie team, the conference announced Monday.

Santerno had a dynamite rookie year for the Falcons. Often lining up as the team's top-line center, he finished the regular season leading Atlantic Hockey in both goals (11) and points (27) among freshmen, and tied for the most assists (16). Nationally, at the end of the regular season he was seventh in points per game among freshmen (0.84).

Overall, Santerno ended his freshman season with 12 goals and 18 assists for 30 points in 35 games. He was second on the team in points, to team captain Kyle Schmidt's 32, tied for second in goals, behind Schmidt's 16, and third in assists.

He was a big part of a very effective power play unit, which finished the season at 22.0 percent. He tallied 16 power play points, seven goals and nine assists, which is currently fourth most in Atlantic Hockey.

The British Columbia native was also named the Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Month for both December and January.

The other All-Rookie team selections, as voted on by the conference's head coaches, were forwards Marc Johnstone of Sacred Heart and Grant Meyer of Canisius, defensemen Brennan Kapcheck of AIC and John Zimmerman of Army, and goaltender Stefano Durante of AIC.
