Four 3rd Period Goals Power Bentley Past Robert Morris 6-3

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Bentley scored four unanswered goals in the 3rd period on its way to a 6-3 victory over Robert Morris on Saturday night for a series sweep of the Colonials. Senior team captain Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc.) recorded his 100th career point in the win with a goal and an assist.

Robert Morris led 3-2 after an early 3rd period goal, but Bentley surged ahead to complete the sweep.

Defenseman Brett Orr (Elkhorn, Manitoba) scored the tying goal at the 5:00 minute mark. Off a face-off win by freshman Luke Santerno (Smithers, B.C.) in the right face-off circle, Orr snapped off a wrist shot that beat RMU goalie Francis Marotte low and to the glove side.

About six minutes later, junior center Drew Callin (Middleton, Wisc.) blasted in the go-ahead goal. Sophomore Ryner Gorowsky (Lino Lakes, Minn.) dug out the puck from behind the net, and fed Callin who was streaking through the slot a pass that Callin one-timed into the top of the net to give Bentley a 4-3 lead at 10:58.

Four-plus minutes later, Robert Morris went on the power play, but it was Bentley that scored as freshman Michael Boyle (Phoenix, Arizona) scored short-handed at 15:32 to put the Falcons up 5-3. Boyle made a steal in the defensive zone that started an odd-man rush for Bentley down the other end of the ice. Boyle fed Matt Riggleman (Milford, Mich.) for a two-on-one, and Riggleman passed back to Boyle who one-timed his shot past Marotte for the goal.

Santerno added a late empty-net goal for Bentley's 6th goal of the night. Schmidt had an assist on the goal for his 100th career point.

Bentley got the night started by scoring two power play goals in the first period for the second straight game. Riggleman netted his second goal of the weekend at the 8:29 mark to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Orr helped set the goal up with a shot from the point that Riggleman deflected, and the puck rolled under Marotte's glove for the goal.

The Falcons then made it 2-0 during a five minute power play. The Colonials killed off the first several minutes without Bentley threatening much, but a hard shot off of Marotte's pads by defenseman Tanner Jago (Brandon, Manitoba) from the point created a rebound opportunity for Schmidt to clean up to put Bentley in front by two goals at 17:19.

Robert Morris started the 2nd period on a power play, and its sustained pressure was rewarded with a goal as left wing Alex Tonge got them on the board at the 1:30 mark to cut Bentley's lead in half.

The Colonials kept up the pressure, and just before the six minute mark, got the tying goal from Ryley Risling. The play started with a shot from just inside the blue line by defenseman Nick Jenny that was saved by Aidan Pelino, but Risling was in front of the net to jam in the rebound to knot the game 2-2.

The second period ended 2-2, and RMU went up 3-2 2:56 into the third period on Louira's goal.

Bentley's goaltender Aidan Pelino (Oakville, Ontario) made 30 saves for his second win of the weekend.
