Army Takes Series Opener from Bentley 6-2

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point scored six unanswered goals on its way to a 6-2 win over Bentley in Atlantic Hockey action on Friday night at Tate Rink. The Falcons though still control their own destiny for home-ice in the first round of the postseason in Saturday night's game.

The defeat drops Bentley's Atlantic Hockey record to 9-13-5. Coupled with Sacred Heart's defeat to Holy Cross, Bentley will enter tomorrow night T-8th with the Pioneers with 23 points, but Bentley holds the tiebreaker. Army jumps ahead of both into 7th with 24 points.

Bentley led 2-0 after just 8:04 of the first period, but Army stormed back with two power play goals to close out the first period tied 2-2. They then scored three goals in the decisive 2nd period, including two just 19 seconds apart past the 16:00 mark of the period.

Bentley's first goal came from senior center Tyler Krause (Kelowna, B.C./West Kelowna) at 5:52 to give them a 1-0 lead, assisted by defensemen Mike Berry (Edmonton, Alberta/Sherwood Park) and Matt Blomquist (Blaine, Minn./Coulee Region).

Freshman Danny Kucerovy (Bethel Park, Pa./Janesville) then added to the lead at 8:04 after he sniped home a shot off an Army turnover in the offensive zone. Bentley held that lead for about seven minutes until a power play goal at 15:00 by Conor Andrle started Army's run towards the lead. Forward Trevor Fidler tied it with the second extra-man goal of the period with just 55 seconds left before intermission.

The series now shifts to Watertown as the teams will close out the regular season tomorrow night at the JAR. Bentley will clinch home-ice with a win, or a tie if Sacred Heart drops points against Holy Cross.
