Bentley Drops Series Opener to Canisius 3-1

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Despite another goal by Andrew Gladiuk (White Rock, B.C./Nanaimo) the Bentley hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to Canisius on Friday at the JAR in the opening game of a weekend Atlantic Hockey series.

Gladiuk gave Bentley a 1-0 lead 9:08 into the first period, assisted by Max French (West Kelowna, B.C./West Kelowna) and Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc.) off a face-off win in the offensive zone. The goal marked the 7th straight game Gladiuk has found the back of the net.

The lead didn't last long though as the Griffs knotted things up at one just 33 seconds later on a goal by freshman Felix Chamberland after he took a pass to the far post from Joshua Gabriel.

The score stayed 1-1 into intermission and almost the halfway point of the 2nd period, before Canisius seized the lead for good at 9:12 on a power play goal by defenseman Jimmy Mazza on a slap shot from the point. Less than two minutes later the visitors made it 3-1 on a goal by Alex Jaeckle.

That was the final goal of the game as Bentley drops to 9-11-4 in Atlantic Hockey games, while Canisius improves to 9-9-5 in conference games with the victory.
