WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Max French (West Kelowna, B.C./West Kelowna) had two goals to lead the Bentley offense as the Falcons and AIC skated to a high-scoring 5-5 tie Saturday night in the series finale at the Olympia Ice Center.
Bentley scored five goals in a period for the second straight night, as they lit the lamp five times in the second period tonight after doing it in the 3rd period of last night's 6-1 win at home.
The five goals erased a 2-0 deficit after the first period and came from four different skaters, two by French and one each by Andrew Gladiuk (White Rock, B.C./Nanaimo), Jake Ahlgren (Fergus Falls, Minn./Wenatchee) and Derek Bacon (Calgary, Alberta/Okotoks).
French struck first at 3:56, and just 16 seconds later Ahlgren potted his 5th of the season to even the score 2-2.
AIC then scored just 31 seconds later to take a 3-2 lead, but the Falcons then ripped off three unanswered over the remainder of the period. Bacon found the back of the net just 1:03 after the goal by AIC's Trevor Cope, his 3rd of the year.
The scoring cooled down for a few minutes, until Gladiuk reignited it by scoring for the 4th time in the series and 11th time this season at the 9:14 mark, assisted by French and line mate Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc./Sioux City) to give Bentley the lead back at 4-3.
French then scored the final goal of the period on the power play with 3:30 remaining, his team leading 16th of the season and Bentley led 5-3 heading into the final period.
Bentley held onto that lead for the first 12-plus minutes of the period, until Ryan Polin scored his 2nd of the game at 12:55, and Cope tied it 5-5 with his 2nd of the night with 3:34 left in regulation.
Neither team scored in the extra session as Bentley goes to 2-1-3 in overtime games this season. They go to 7-9-3 in Atlantic Hockey games with the draw.
