BROOKLYN, N.Y. – At the first ever college hockey game at Brooklyn's Barclays Center, Bentley scored a 6-2 win over Army. The win extends its unbeaten streak to four at 3-0-1 and is the team's first Atlantic Hockey win of the season. Sophomore Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc./Sioux City) had two power play goals to lead the Bentley charge.
Defensemen Matt Blomquist (Blaine, Minn./Coulee Region) gave Bentley the perfect start with a goal just 19 seconds in to the game on a slap shot from the blue.
Max French (West Kelowna, B.C./West Kelowna) netted his third goal of the series at 14:12 of the 1st period on the power play to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead. French took a pass from defenseman Tanner Jago (Brandon, Manitoba/Portage Terriers) in the slot and rifled home his shot over glove of Army goalie Parker Gahagen.
Before the 1st frame ended the Falcons made it 3-1 as freshman Jake Ahlgren (Fergus Falls, Minn./Wenatachee) scored his first career goal and banging in a loose puck in front of the net, fighting through traffic to give them a 3-1 lead at 15:43.
The only goal of the second period was scored by Bentley on the power play at 8:36 by Schmidt, as he beat Gahagen on the near post for second goal of the season.
Third period Bentley goals were scored by Schmidt and Cody DePourcq (Penticon, B.C./Penticon). DePourcq's goal at 18:31 was on the power play and was the first of his career.
Bentley, now 3-2-1 on the season and 1-2-1 in Atlantic Hockey, is back in action on Wednesday when they host Merrimack.
