WORCESTER, Mass. – Bentley completed a series sweep of Holy Cross by defeating the Crusaders 5-2 at the Hart Center Saturday night in Atlantic Hockey action. The Falcons have now won four in a row and five of six.

Five different players scored in a game that saw a balanced offensive effort; 11 different players recorded a point. Defenseman Bill Eiserman (Newburyport, Mass./Chicago Steel) was the only player with multiple points, with two assists.

Bentley fell behind for the second straight night as the Crusaders took a 1-0 lead behind a goal from freshman Scott Pooley just 5:09 into the first period. The goal came just three seconds after an early Bentley penalty had expired, putting them on the penalty kill in the early goings.

But the Falcons answered back only 19 seconds later as freshman Matt Sieckhaus (Fenton, Mo./Amarillo) lit the lamp for the second time this season. Sieckhaus redirected a slot shot from the blue line by defenseman Matt Maher (Avon, Conn./Westside) that got under the pads of Holy Cross goalie Matt Ginn.

Towards the end of the first period Bentley went on the penalty kill for the third time, but produced a shorthanded goal as freshman Andrew McDonald (New Brighton, Minn./Fargo) netted his third goal of the series. He had a 2-on-1 break down the left wing with a teammate, but fired a shot on Ginn that went under his blocker for a 2-1 Bentley lead at 18:21.

The Falcons dominated the second period to the tune of a 15-5 advantage in shots. But it looked like they were going to come away empty-handed, until defenseman Kyle O'Brien (Tewksbury, Mass./Cushing Prep) ripped a shot past Ginn from the point at 19:21 to make it 3-1 for the Falcons after two periods.

Freshman Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc./Sioux City) gave Bentley a 4-1 lead just 1:02 into the third period. Ginn made a pad save on a shot from Tyler Deresky (Flemington, N.J./Amarillo) but Schmidt was there to pounce on the rebound and wrist it past Ginn.

Holy Cross briefly got back in it at 4-2 after a goal by Mike Barrett, but a five minute major penalty with 6:29 left put a huge dent in their chances. Senior Alex Kubiak (Tinley Park, Ill./Chicago Steel) added an empty net goal from center ice with 1:17 left to provide the final 5-2 margin.

The Falcons are now 15-11-3 overall and 13-7-3 in Atlantic Hockey, while the Crusaders drop to 10-14-5 and 9-9-5. Bentley is back in action next Friday when they host Sacred Heart.
