Holy Cross Tops Bentley at Home 4-2

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross used a string of three goals about four minutes apart in the second period on its way to a 4-2 victory over Bentley Tuesday night in an Atlantic Hockey matchup at the Hart Center in Worcester.

Bentley jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 1:36 into the first period on junior Michael Reardon's (Norwood, Mass./South Shore Kings) second goal of the season. Taking a pass from freshman Matt Sieckhaus (Fenton, Mo./Amarillo Bulls) Reardon beat Holy Cross goalie Matt Ginn top shelf to give the Falcons an early lead.

Bentley kept that lead into the second period as goalie Gabe Antoni (Landsdale, Pa./Springfield Jr. Blues) made six saves in the opening period.

But in the second frame, a goal at 6:33 by junior Caston Sommer started a three-goal run for the Crusaders over four-plus minutes to take a 3-1 lead. Sommer tipped in a shot in front of the net by defenseman Tommy Muratore for the goal. A goal at 8:38 on the power play by junior Brett Lubanski gave them a 2-1 lead, after Lubanksi took a centering pass from forward Matt Vidal from the right wing.

Freshman Scott Pooley then made it 3-1 just under two minutes later, after a pass from Muratore from the neutral zone sprung him for a breakaway.

With just 32 seconds left in the period though, Derek Bacon's (Calgary, Alberta/Okotoks) second goal of the year, from Reardon, cut Bentley's deficit to 3-2. Behind the net, Reardon found Bacon out front, who one-timed his shot past Ginn's glove.

But an early goal in the third frame, at 2:25 from Matt Barrett gave the Crusaders a two goal lead again.

The defeat drops Bentley's record to 5-7-1 overall and 3-3-1 in Atlantic Hockey, while the Crusaders improve to 4-5-4 and 4-1-4. With just two days until the next game, Bentley is back on the ice on Friday to open a series against Army.
