MILFORD, Conn. – Bentley scored three times less than six minutes apart in the second period, in the key stretch in a 4-1 victory over Sacred Heart Friday night in the team's Atlantic Hockey opener. The goals came from Andrew Gladiuk (White Rock, B.C./Nanaimo Clippers), Charlie Donners (Norwood, Mass./Dexter School), Alex Kubiak (Tinley Park, Ill./Chicago Steel) and Brett Switzer (Calgary, Alberta/Spruce Grove).
Sacred Heart scored the game's first goal from sophomore Evan Jasper 5:13 into the first period. But from that point, Falcons goalie Gabe Antoni (Lansdale, Pa./Springfield Jr. Blues) shut the door, making 17 of his 20 going forward.
Gladiuk got Bentley's run of goals started with his second of the season at 12:48 of the second period. The goal came as he tipped in a shot from sophomore Max French (West Kelowna, B.C./West Kelowna). Donners made it 2-1 less than two minutes later. After making a steal in the neutral zone he fed Reardon down the right wing for a 2-on-1. Reardon put the puck on net and Donners tipped it in for the go-ahead goal.
Kubiak then made it 3-1 at 18:03 with the assists coming from Tyler Deresky (Flemington, N.J./Amarillo) and Reardon.
Bentley went 4-4 on the penalty kill in the third period to help deny any comeback attempt by the Pioneers. Switzer added further insurance with his goal at 17:29.
After improving to 1-1 on the season, the Falcons play their home opener Saturday night at Ryan Arena. Face off against Sacred Heart is 7:05 pm.
