BOSTON, Mass. – Senior goalie Branden Komm (Williamsville, N.Y./Northfield Mount Hermon) made 42 saves and four different players scored as the Bentley University hockey team notched a signature win with a 4-1 victory over the Boston University Terriers Saturday night at Agganis Arena.

Komm had a shutout going for nearly 55 minutes in a standout performance as the Falcons knocked off one of college hockey's traditional powers on its home-ice. It's the fifth time in six seasons Bentley has beaten a team from the Hockey East conference. Komm also earned his 36^th career win to break the school record for wins that had stood since 1984.

The Falcon goals came from sophomore Derek Bacon (Calgary, Alberta/Okotoks Oilers) in the first period, and Jared Rickord (Skokie, Ill./Springfield Jr. Blues) and Brett Switzer (Calgary, Alberta/Spruce Grove Saints) in the second. Senior Brett Gensler (St. Charles, Mo./Youngstown Phantoms) added an empty net goal with 1:58 left in the third to seal it.

Bentley jumped out to a 1-0 lead just after the halfway point of the opening period on Bacon's second goal of the season. The goal was setup by defenseman Steve Weinstein's (Los Angeles, Calif./Vernon Vipers) shot from the blue line. Weinstein's shot caused the puck to skip across the ice, while Bacon was positioned in front of the net, allowing him to get his stick on the puck and redirect it under the pads of Terrier goalie Matt O'Connor.

The Falcons then had a tremendous second period with goals from Rickord and Switzer to take a 3-0 lead into the third period, while Komm had 26 saves through 40 minutes.

Bentley special teams produced Rickord's goal just 1:40 into the second period, but it came courtesy of the penalty kill unit. Junior Alex Kubiak (Tinley Park, Ill./Chicago Steel) made a steal in the neutral zone and passed ahead to Rickord to spring him on a breakaway. Rickord then deked around O'Connor and finished to make it 2-0.

A little over four minutes later, Switzer scored at 5:45 to give Bentley a 3-0 lead. A pass from defenseman Matt Blomquist (Blaine, Minn./Coulee Region Chill) from the neutral zone to Switzer down the left wing got the play started. From there a 3-on-1 developed with Alex Grieve (Calgary, Alberta/Westside Warriors) down the middle and Gensler skating down the right wing. Switzer faked a pass to Grieve and instead fired off a wrist shot himself, beating O'Connor to the near side for his sixth goal of the season.

Komm's shutout bid came to an end with 5:04 left in the third period and Bentley still leading 3-0 on a power play goal by Matt Lane, after he tipped in a shot from the point by defenseman Ahti Oksanen. Komm though prevented further damage minutes later with a tremendous sliding, blocker save, as he slid across the crease to deny center Danny O'Regan on the doorstep.

Weinstein had two assists on the night to take his total on the season to 21, as the Falcons run their unbeaten streak to seven (6-0-1), while improving their record to 8-7-1 overall. Boston University falls to 7-8-2.

Bentley will now head into the semester break, and they return to the ice on Dec. 28 for Frozen Fenway against Holy Cross.
