HAMDEN, Conn. – Despite a wide disparity in shots Bentley scored the game's final two goals, but its rally came up short in a 4-3 defeat to No. 9 Quinnipiac in non-conference hockey Tuesday night at the TD Bank Sports Center.

The Bobcats, an NCAA finalist last season, outshot Bentley 50-13 on the night and led 4-1 after Zach Tolkinen scored a power play goal at 10:29 of the second period.

But that was the last goal Quinnipiac would score, thanks in large part to outstanding goaltending by senior Branden Komm (Williamsville, N.Y./Northfield Mount Hermon), who had 46 saves and 30 in the final two periods.

Senior Justin Breton (Fitchburg, Mass./Boston Jr. Bruins) got the Falcons to within 4-2 at 16:26 of the second period, after he tipped in a shot in front of the net from freshman defenseman Charlie Donners (Norwood, Mass./Dexter School). Donners blasted a shot from the point that went through traffic, allowing Breton to get his stick on it and the puck under the pads of Bobcats goalie Michael Garteig.

Bentley's comeback efforts were hurt by taking three penalties in the third period, but junior Brett Switzer (Calgary, Alberta/Spruce Grove Saints) netted a power play goal at 12:02 to make it 4-3 and a one-goal game.

But that was all Quinnipiac would allow, and they hung on for its fourth win in a row to improve to 4-1. The Falcons drop to 1-4. .

The Falcons were hurt by a slow start as they fell behind 2-0 after 9:26 of the first period. But junior Alex Grieve (Calgary, Alberta/Westside Warriors) got them on the board at 13:10 of the first with an unassisted goal.

Quinnipiac went up 3-1 at 4:46 of the second period on a power play goal by Sam Anas.

Bentley will look to get back on track when they face Harvard Saturday night at the Bright Hockey Center in Cambridge.
