NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Bentley University came away empty handed from its series with No. 17 Niagara University, as the Falcons suffered a 6-4 defeat Saturday night and were swept by the first-place Purple Eagles. It's the first time all season Bentley has been swept.

In stark contrast to last night's low scoring game won 2-1 by Niagara, this game featured 10 goals. The Falcons trailed 3-1 after the first period, got to within 4-3 midway through the second period, 5-4 at the end of the second, but could not find the tying goal in the third period. The game was not decided until Niagara's Marc Zanette scored an empty-net goal, his second of the night, with 16 seconds left.

The Falcons led 1-0 after sophomore Brett Switzer (Calgary, Alberta/Spruce Grove Saints) scored just 38 seconds into the first period, but Niagara scored three times over the last 6:14 of the opening period to lead 3-1 at the first intermission. Ryan Murphy, Ryan Rashid and Sam Alfieri had the goals for the hosts.

But Bentley fought back in a back-and-forth second period that saw them score three times and Niagara twice, to trail only 5-4 at the end of the period.

The teams traded goals in the opening 4:12 of the period. Junior Jared Rickord (Skokie, Ill./Springfield Jr. Blues) scored for Bentley off a tip-in from a Kyle O'Brien (Tewksbury, Mass./Cushing Prep) shot, but  Zanette answered for Niagara with his first goal of the game to make it 4-2.

Defenseman Matt Maher (Avon, Conn./Westside Warriors) scored for Bentley at 9:00 to make it 4-3, as he one-timed Steve Weinstein's (Los Angles, Calif./Vernon Vipers) pass from the top of the slot on the doorstep past goalie Carsen Chubak.

Niagara though answered again through Murphy's second of the contest at 10:31 to take a 5-3 advantage. But with just 55 seconds left in the period, Bentley responded again on junior Justin Breton's (Fitchburg, Mass./Boston Jr. Bruins) 12^th of the season. Breton took a centering pass in the slot from Andrew Gladiuk (White Rock, British Columbia/Nanaimo Clippers) on the right wing, and slammed it past Chubak for the goal.

That was the last goal of the game for Bentley though. They went on the power play with 4:25 remaining in the third period, and pulled Komm with 48 seconds left in search of the tying goal, but came up empty.

The Purple Eagles improve to 17-4-5 on the season and 16-1-2- in Atlantic Hockey. Bentley has dropped three in a row and falls to 11-13-1 overall and 9-9-1 in the conference.
