PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Bentley University gained a series split with Robert Morris Saturday night by hanging on for a 5-4 victory over the Colonials in Atlantic Hockey action at 84 Lumber Arena.

The Falcons jumped out a 3-0 first period lead after just 11 minutes, had its lead cut to 3-2 in the third period, but received goals from junior Brett Gensler (St. Charles, Mo./Youngstown Phantoms) and senior Dan Koudys (Grimsby, Ontario/Burlington Cougars) to earn the 5-4 win on the road.

A goal by Robert Morris' Adam Brace 3:11 into the third period chopped Bentley's lead to 3-2 after they had led 3-0 after the opening 20 minutes. But Gensler responded just 16 seconds later with his fifth goal of the year and second point of the night to put Bentley up 4-2.

The Colonials got back to within one goal when Jay Llewelyn scored at the 10:51 mark, but Koudys gave the Falcons a two-goal lead back at 5-3 with his second goal of the season at 15:52. Colin South netted an extra-attacker goal for Robert Morris with 2:07 left, his second of the night, but Bentley hung on the final two-plus minutes for the win.

After a 5-2 setback in the series opener on Friday, Bentley got off to the best possible start on Saturday with two goals in the first 7:22 of the first period, and three in the first 11:03.

Junior Justin Breton (Fitchburg, Mass./Boston Jr. Bruins) scored the first goal of the game just 3:03 in. Following that goal Bentley's special teams, and defenseman Steve Weinstein (Los Angeles, Calif./Vernon Vipers),  went to work.

Weinstein first scored on the power play, with Gensler and Alex Grieve (Calgary, Alberta/Westside Warriors) assisting, at the 7:22 mark. A few minutes later, while Grieve was serving an interference penalty, Weinstein scored shorthanded 45 seconds into the man-disadvantage to put Bentley up 3-0.

Bentley was outshot 41-27, but goaltender Branden Komm (Williamsville, N.Y./Northfield Mount Hermon) made 37 saves.

The Falcons (3-3, 2-1 AHA) get back to .500 with the win, while Robert Morris (3-3, 2-2 AHA) falls to .500. Bentley returns to the ice next Friday night at Holy Cross for its only game of the weekend.
