Hartung, Peterson and Komm Lead Bentley Past Army 2-1

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Sophomore Brett Hartung (Tallahassee, Fla./Wichita Falls Wildcats) and senior Erik Peterson (Shorewood, Minn./Sioux Falls Stampede) scored second period goals and freshman goalie Branden Komm (Williamsville, N.Y./Northfield Mount Herron) made 26 saves as Bentley University upended Army 2-1 Friday night in Atlantic Hockey action.

It's the second straight Atlantic Hockey win for the Falcons, as well as their second straight home win, after Saturday's 3-2 victory over Mercyhurst.

All of the game's goals came in the second period, and for Peterson, it's his second straight contest lighting the lamp. Komm earns his first collegiate win in his third career start.

After a scoreless first period where Army outshot Bentley 9-7 and went 0-2 on the power play, Hartung gave his team a 1-0 advantage just 2:11 into the second. After taking a pass from junior Aaron Stonacek (Basehor,Kan./Fairbanks Ice Dogs), he took a wrist shot from the left face-off circle that went in off the glove of Army goalie Ryan Leets.

It took the Black Knights less than four minutes to tie the game though, as junior Mark Dube scored for the sixth time this year at 6:08. Komm appeared to save Dube's shot from the right wing, but the puck trickled in five-hole to make it a 1-1 game.

Bentley answered back in even quicker fashion, as Peterson put his team ahead for good at 9:35. Junior defenseman Trent Bonnett (Butler, Pa./Mahoning Valley Phantoms) had a big hand in the goal, taking a slap shot from the point that Peterson got a stick on in front of the net.

Komm slammed the door the rest of the way, and Bentley withstood the final 1:22 of the third period with Army having an extra-attacker on the ice for the win.

The Falcons are now 7-13-4 overall and 6-9-3 in Atlantic Hockey, while Army drops to 7-15-3 on the season and 6-9-3 in conference play.

The second game of the series is Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
