BOSTON, Mass. – Bentley University made three straight years with a win over a Hockey East school as the Falcons posted a 2-1 win over Northeastern at Matthews Arena Saturday night. Freshman Brett Gensler (St. Charles, Mo./Youngstown Phantoms) scored the go-ahead goal with 9:18 left in the game.

The first two periods were scoreless, but the action picked up with a three goal flurry within four minutes in the third period.

Northeastern scored first goal at 6:25. With the Huskies on the power play, sophomore Drew Daniels skated down the right wing and left a backhand pass for junior Mike McLaughlin in the slot, who wristed his shot into the net. Prior to that, the Falcons had killed off a 34 second two-man advantage.

Less than two minutes after Northeastern's goal though, senior Erik Peterson (Shorewood, Minn./Sioux Falls Stampede) knotted the game at one. Sophomore Dan Koudys (Grimsby, Ontario/Burlington Cougars) gained control of the puck as it wrapped around the net, and fed a short pass on the goal line to sophomore Joe Campanelli (Pierrefonds, Quebec/Westminster Prep). Campanelli then fed a centering pass to Peterson on the right post, who beat Northeastern goalie Clay Witt to the glove side.

Two minutes and thirty five seconds after Peterson tied the game, Gensler put the Falcons ahead for good. Senior Dustin Cloutier (Berkley, Mich./Mahoning Valley Phantoms) took a shot from the point that Gensler tipped in as he was pushed down, causing him fall into Witt. The goal was placed under video review but the officials confirmed it as a goal.

Bentley was able to withstand the final 30 seconds with Witt pulled and the extra-attacker on the ice to hang on for the win.

Senior goalie Joe Calvi (New Lenox, Ill./New England Jr. Huskies) was sharp in net for Bentley, making 34 saves for his first win of the season. Witt made 32 saves for Northeastern.

The Falcons improve to 1-3-1 on the season, while the Huskies fall to 1-4-2.

Bentley's next game is Wednesday night at home against Sacred Heart.
