Bentley Earns 4th NEIGA D2 Title in 7 Years; Meyers Captures Medalist Honors

BREWSTER, Mass. – With three of the top five finishers, including medalist Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS), the Bentley University Falcons claimed their fourth New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Division II title in seven years Monday at the Captains Golf Course.

Coach Mickey Herron's team captured team accolades by 15 strokes over runner-up Franklin Pierce University after turning in a two-day score of 590. The Falcons opened with a two-over 290 on Sunday and followed with a second-round 300. Assumption College took third in the seven-team event, finishing at 609.

Meyers, who began the day a stroke back in a tie for second, turned in a second-round 72 and finished the tournament with a one-under 143. He prevailed by a single stroke over Franklin Pierce's Dylan Pliss, who turned in back-to-back 72s.

Bentley sophomore Robert Falconer (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS), the individual leader following day one, took fourth with a 70-78-148, and Falcon freshman Tommy Ethier (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS) followed in fifth with a 75-74-149.

Meyers, Falconer and Ethier all earned Division II All-NEIGA honors for their performance.

Also competing for the Falcons were juniors Chris Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) and Doug Kulikowski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland HS). Simione tied for 15th with a 74-79-153 and Kulikowski tied for 22nd (82-76-158).

The tournament wrapped up a successful fall for the Falcons, who finished first in the Northeast-10 Championships three weeks ago.
